Experience one of the most rewarding monsoon adventures near Mumbai with the Ganpati Gadad Caves Trek. Nestled amidst the lush Sahyadri ranges near Murbad, this hidden gem combines scenic trails, ancient rock-cut caves, cascading waterfalls, and breathtaking mountain views into an unforgettable trekking experience.
The trek winds through dense forests, vibrant green meadows, flowing streams, and mist-covered valleys before reaching a fascinating cluster of 6–7 ancient caves, believed to be dedicated to Lord Ganesha—hence the name Ganpati Gadad. During the monsoon, the entire landscape transforms into a paradise of roaring waterfalls, cool mountain breezes, and rolling clouds, making it one of the most picturesque seasonal treks in Maharashtra.
As you ascend towards the caves, you’ll be rewarded with spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding Sahyadri peaks, including Siddhagad, Gorakhgad, Machindragad, Dhakoba, Jivdhan, Naneghat, and the imposing Durg Fort. The caves themselves offer a unique blend of natural beauty and history, with small waterfalls flowing beside the rock-cut chambers, creating an enchanting atmosphere.
Starting from the peaceful village of Palu (Sonawale), this moderate-grade trek is ideal for adventure enthusiasts, nature lovers, photographers, and anyone looking to escape into the untouched beauty of the Western Ghats. Combining thrilling trails, hidden caves, scenic viewpoints, and the magic of the monsoon, the Ganpati Gadad Caves Trek promises an unforgettable journey into one of Maharashtra’s lesser-known natural wonders.
