About this tour

Overview:

The Dodital -Darwa Pass Trek is one of the most peaceful and scenic Himalayan treks in North India, offering a perfect blend of mountain landscapes, dense forests, alpine lakes, and rich birdlife. Situated at an elevation of approximately 11000 ft above sea level, the trek attracts travelers looking for a quieter and more immersive Himalayan experience.

The trek is named after the rare Himalayan trout locally known as “Dodi,” which is found in the pristine waters of Dodital Lake. The journey generally begins from Haridwar and continues towards Uttarkashi before reaching the small Himalayan village of Sangam Chatti, which serves as the starting point of the trek.

From Sangam Chatti, the trail begins with a gradual uphill climb leading towards the settlement of Agoda. As the trek progresses, the route passes through dense mixed forests overlooking the beautiful Asi Ganga valley before gradually entering the side valley that leads towards Dodital.

The trail offers a rich natural landscape filled with rhododendron, oak, pine, and bamboo forests. Along the journey, trekkers may come across remote shepherd settlements and peaceful mountain trails surrounded by the sounds of birds and flowing valley streams. The route also features ridgeline sections and panoramic Himalayan views that make the experience especially rewarding.

One of the major highlights of the trek is Dodital Lake itself — a serene high-altitude lake surrounded by pine and oak forests. The lake serves as a beautiful campsite and creates a calm, peaceful atmosphere ideal for relaxation and nature exploration.

The region is also known for its rich birdlife, making it a wonderful destination for birdwatching enthusiasts. Trekkers may spot several Himalayan bird species including the Brown Fronted Woodpecker, Himalayan Babbler, Red-Billed Blue Magpie, Himalayan Monal, Himalayan Whistling Thrush, Pink Finch, Bush Robin, Gray Tit, and many others along the route.
