Itinerary

Your journey towards the Nag Tibba Trek begins with an early morning pickup from Dehradun Railway Station at around 6 AM. From here, you will embark on a scenic uphill drive of approximately 85 km towards Pantwari, a charming mountain village located at an elevation of approximately 4642\ \text{ft} above sea level. The drive usually takes around 4 hours. The route passes through the beautiful hill station of Mussoorie, popularly known as the “Queen of the Hills,” along with the famous Kempty Falls. Mussoorie is also the last major point where ATM facilities are available before entering the more remote mountain region. Throughout much of the drive, the scenic Yamuna River flows alongside the road until Nainbagh, after which the route diverts towards Nag Tibba. You are expected to arrive at Pantwari by around 11 AM. After reaching the village, a light breakfast is served followed by a short rest before beginning the trek towards the main campsite. The trekking section starts after the motorable road ends, with vehicles taking you as far as possible before the hike begins. The initial trail follows a well-cemented path before gradually transitioning into rocky mountain terrain. Around 15 minutes into the trek, you will come across a stream water reservoir where trekkers are advised to refill their water bottles. As the trek continues, you’ll witness small Himalayan villages perched along the cliffs, featuring traditional huts and beautiful terrace farmlands. During the harvesting season, the landscapes become especially vibrant with shades of green and yellow spread across the hillsides. From certain points on the trail, you can also enjoy scenic views of Pantwari village below. Further ahead, the route passes through the famous The Goat Village, known for its eco-tourism resort, before leading towards the ridge connecting the Pantwari region with Nag Tibba. As you ascend higher, the trail enters dense oak and rhododendron forests, creating a peaceful and picturesque atmosphere throughout the journey. Along the way, you’ll come across a small isolated hut on the farmland which acts as an important landmark. From here, the main campsite is only about a 5-minute walk away. The campsite itself is surrounded by forests and often covered with floating clouds rising from the valley below, creating a magical mountain setting. Upon reaching the main Nag Tibba campsite, Day 1 of the trek officially comes to an end. After some rest and refreshments, you can enjoy a warm and delicious meal while spending quality time with fellow trekkers at the campsite. A good night’s sleep is highly recommended, as the next day involves the final ascent towards the Nag Tibba summit.

Day 2 of the Nag Tibba Trek is focused on reaching the Nag Tibba Summit and returning back to Dehradun by evening. The total trekking distance for the day is approximately 11 km and generally takes around 5 hours to complete. After the trek, a return drive to Dehradun is arranged, with an expected arrival time between 6–7 PM, allowing you to plan your onward journey accordingly. The day begins early in the morning to ensure enough time for both the summit climb and descent. After an early breakfast, the trek usually starts around 5 AM. The trail initially passes through dense forest sections, and during winters, much of the route remains covered in snow, creating a beautiful yet slightly challenging trekking experience. As you continue towards the summit, you will come across a couple of open clearings within the first 20–30 minutes of trekking. These breaks in the forest offer beautiful views of the surrounding Himalayan landscapes. Beyond this point, the trail becomes comparatively gradual, with gentle ascents leading further uphill. The third clearing introduces trekkers to the famous Nag Tibba Temple, which marks the beginning of the Nag Tibba hill section. On clear days, stunning views of the Garhwal Himalayan ranges can be witnessed from here. Further ahead, the trail enters another dense forest section with steeper inclines. During winter, this part of the route is often covered in snow, adding both adventure and scenic beauty to the climb. Near the summit, the trail turns towards the ridge before finally leading to the prayer-flag-covered summit point of Nag Tibba. Standing at an elevation of approximately 10000\ \text{ft}, the summit offers breathtaking panoramic views of prominent Himalayan peaks including Gangotri, Kedarnath, Bandarpoonch, and several surrounding snow-covered ranges. The summit atmosphere, combined with the dramatic mountain scenery, makes the climb truly rewarding. If the trek proceeds according to schedule, trekkers usually get some extra time at the summit to relax and enjoy the surroundings. However, weather conditions near the summit tend to worsen during the evening, making it important to begin the descent on time. The return trek follows the same trail back towards the campsite. Lunch is generally served at the Temple Campsite before continuing the descent towards Pantwari, which is usually reached around sunset. From Pantwari, a further 4–5 hour drive brings you back to Dehradun, marking the conclusion of the Nag Tibba Trek. If time permits after reaching Dehradun, you can also explore parts of the beautiful city before continuing your onward journey.
