“We didn’t realize we were making memories, we just knew we were having fun” – Winnie the Pooh
Immerse yourself in the solitude of the majestic Himalayas. Welcome to a sanctuary designed to rejuvenate your body, mind, and soul through a deep connection with nature.
The Space
This experiential homestead is nestled in the quaint sub-alpine village of Merdhura in Almora. Built by a group of nature lovers, this retreat was created to offer an escape from the drills of modern urban life. The property is rooted in the Buddhist practice of “mettā” (loving-kindness and compassion), fostering a space of rest, peace, and mindfulness.
Your accommodation is a stunning 900 sq. ft. open-concept studio perfect for a group of four. Built by local artisans using sustainable, locally sourced materials—wood, stone, salvaged patals (hand-cut stone slabs), and mud plaster—the chalet seamlessly blends modern comfort with traditional Kumaoni architecture.
Design & Vibe: The minimalist décor, clay walls, and inbuilt wooden and stone seating create the ultimate mountain cabin vibe. A traditional bukhari (iron fireplace) keeps the space cozy, while large windows and skylights draw the Himalayan landscape indoors. Imagine stargazing through the skylight or watching the colorful morning skies right from your bed!
Nature at Your Doorstep: Our one-acre orchard of deciduous fruit trees, evergreen pines, and oaks is frequently visited by a family of barking deer, butterflies, porcupines, and seasonal monkeys. Here, every day starts with a birdsong and ends with their lullaby.
Guest Access
Private Areas: Guests have exclusive access to the entire studio, featuring a spacious seating area, a kitchenette, a large bathroom, a small terrace, and a portico.
Shared Spaces: You are welcome to roam the orchard, access our open kitchen-diner, and explore the beautiful forest trails surrounding the property.
Dining Options
We specialize in traditional Kumaoni cuisine and aim to give our guests a homely, experiential feel:
Meal Pricing: Breakfast (Rs. 300), Lunch & Dinner (Rs. 550 each), Evening Snacks & Tea (Rs. 100 per person).
Dietary Needs: Please inform us a day in advance if you prefer non-local cuisine, have allergies, or require Jain/Vegetarian/Non-Vegetarian meals.
Room Service: Available for meals at an additional charge (excluding evening snacks/tea).
Self-Catering: You can rent our basic kitchen amenities (cooktop, utensils, basic ingredients) for Rs. 700/day. Preparing quick items like Maggi or baby food in the dining area is completely free—you can do it yourself or ask our staff!
Essential Information for Your Stay
To ensure a comfortable and harmonious experience, please note the following before booking:
The Terrain: The rough, hilly landscape can be challenging for toddlers, the elderly, or guests with mobility/visual impairments. Please consider this before reserving.
Getting Here: The final 750 meters of the approach is a kucha (unpaved) country road. For safety, driving this stretch should be avoided during rain or snow, and guests may need to walk the final distance.
Weather & Packing: Mountain weather changes rapidly. The surrounding oak trees make the property particularly chilly in winter and during the rains. Please pack warm layers (gloves, caps, shawls, puffer jackets).
Remote Location: We are situated in a secluded village. Guests must carry any essential medicines or specific food items they cannot do without.
Wildlife & Nature: Our orchard encourages the harmless coexistence of birds, insects, and other wildlife. Please keep doors and windows locked when away, and let us know immediately if an insect wanders inside.
Additional Amenities: The fireplace and room heaters are available, with usage charged separately.
Driver Accommodation: We cannot accommodate drivers on-site. However, reasonable lodging is available in the nearby market (7km away).
We look forward to hosting you. Your love, respect for the local culture, and responsible living will help us keep this retreat beautiful and tranquil for all fellow travelers.
