This Cozy Home stay in Dhura
300 sq. ft. self-sufficient mini-chalet is specially curated to delve into the world of creative chaos—not just as an escape, but as an inspiring part of everyday life. Located atop the host home with a separate private entrance, it is an ideal holiday rental for solo travelers or couples.
Mesmerizing Views: Enjoy 180-degree unobstructed Himalayan views on clear days (best from October to February, between sunrise and noon). The panoramic sweep starts with Chaukhamba on the far left, crosses Trishul, Mrigthuni, Nanda Devi, and Panchachuli in the middle, and reaches the Nepal Himalayas on the far right.
Interior Comforts: The wood-lined interior features a queen-size wooden bed facing a large window, bringing golden sunrises and sunsets right to you. It includes built-in storage shelves, a long window seat to relax and take in the scenery, a traditional iron fireplace (Bukhari), and a combined bathroom/toilet with a shower.
Kitchen & Balcony: A charming mini-kitchenette connects the bedroom to a covered balcony. The enclosed balcony acts as a perfect workspace or dining spot, featuring a small desk and chairs with absolutely stunning mountain views.
Long Stays: This unit is open for longer retreats (minimum 7 days) at discounted rates.
About the Homestead This experiential homestead is nestled in a quaint sub-alpine Himalayan village in the Jalna Block of Almora. Spread over a one-acre orchard of deciduous fruit trees and evergreen pine and oak, the property features five uniquely designed units built over five years with love and patience.
Created by a group of nature lovers using locally available materials and artisans, the retreat is built on the Buddhist principle of maitrī (loving-kindness) to offer peace and mindfulness away from the drills of modern urban life. The farm is a haven for wildlife, occasionally visited by a family of barking deer, butterflies, porcupines, and monkeys during harvest season. Every day starts with birdsong and ends with their lullaby.
Guest Access & Amenities Guests have private access to the entire chalet, including its beautiful entrance portico, the bedroom area, kitchenette, and balcony. Lying just a floor above the host accommodations, it is conveniently close to the main dining area.
Relaxation: Enjoy the serenity of your private balcony or bay window. You can also roam the shared orchard, take walks on nearby forest trails, and let the snowcapped Himalayas serve as the perfect backdrop to lose yourself in nature.
Shared Spaces: Guests have shared access to the main open kitchen-diner and the expansive orchard.
Other Things to Note
Dining: Meals are served at our open kitchen-diner (Breakfast: ₹300; Lunch & Dinner: ₹550 each; Evening Snacks & Tea: ₹100 per person). We specialize in traditional Kumaoni cuisine. Please inform us of your preference for Jain/veg/non-veg meals or any allergies a day ahead of your trip. Room service for meals (except evening snacks/tea) is available for an additional charge.
Self-Catering: We can provide basic kitchen amenities (cooktop, utensils, basic ingredients) for ₹700/day. Preparing quick items like instant noodles or baby food in the main diner is free of charge, or our staff can cook it for you.
Nature & Wildlife: Our orchard encourages harmless co-existence with birds and insects. Please keep doors and windows locked when you are not in the rooms, and inform us immediately if an insect gets inside.
Terrain: The rough hilly terrain can be challenging for toddlers, the elderly, or guests with mobility/visual disabilities. Please consider this before reserving.
Weather & Clothing: Mountain weather changes quickly. The oak trees on the property provide deep shade, making it very chilly during winter and the rainy season. Warm clothing (gloves, caps, shawls, puffer jackets) is a must.
Location Access: The last 750m of the approach road is an unpaved country road. Driving this stretch should be avoided if it rains or snows; guests may have to walk this distance in such scenarios.
Driver Accommodation: We are currently unable to provide on-site accommodation for drivers. However, reasonable lodging is available in the nearby market (7km away).
Extras: Fireplace and room heaters are available, with usage charged separately.
Essentials: Being in a rural, remote area, local shops are limited. Please carry any essential medicines or specific food items you cannot do without.
Conduct: We request our guests to be respectful of the local culture, wildlife, and natural environment to help us maintain the tranquility of the space for all fellow travelers.
