Kashmir- “The paradise on earth”. Kashmir Great Lakes Trek is one of the most beautiful treks in India. Many of the lakes on this trek are named after gods from Hindu Religion and come with interesting stories about the origin and existence. The most spectacular lakes on this trek are Gangabal, Vishansar, Krishnasar and Gadsar. The spectacular land of Kashmir still stands true in every sense. KGL trek is a trekking expedition of 68-75kms which commences from Sonamarg, reaches the highest point Gadsar Pass at 13,750 feet and concludes at Naranag at 7450 feet. The group will gather at the Tourist Reception Centre in Srinagar by late morning. Following the meet-up, we’ll embark on a drive from Srin:nagar to Sonamarg, covering approximately 90 km in about 4 hours. Sonamarg’s Shitkari village will be our starting point, acting as the perfect base camp for the Kashmir Great Lakes Trek. Please ensure you bring your ID proof—both the original and two photocopies—as these will be required for submission at the army checkpoint. After enjoying breakfast in the early morning, we’ll set off toward Nichnai, our designated campsite. The trail offers a glimpse of Kashmir’s enchanting beauty, with maple and pine trees framing the path. As we climb steadily, the breathtaking expanse of the Sonamarg Valley unfolds before us. Relentless streams carve through the landscape, leading to the verdant meadows of Shekdur, dotted with small peaks and encircled by Bhoj trees—a perfect spot to pause, catch your breath, and soak in nature’s splendor. Tracing the Nichnai stream, we’ll arrive at our campsite, where we’ll savor dinner and rest for the night. Following an early breakfast, we’ll begin our journey to the picturesque Vishansar Lake, a site of great significance to Kashmiri Pandits, surrounded by captivating alpine forests and gorges dotted with tiny glaciers—an alluring highlight for trekkers.

From your campsite, the Nichnai Pass looms behind twin peaks that rise majestically in the distance. As you approach the base of the mountains, the lake gradually reveals itself. A steady climb through meadows brings the pass into sight, offering a spectacular vista of the Sonamarg Valley. After soaking in the pass’s enchanting beauty, you’ll descend with views of vibrant flowery meadows and rivers painting the background. Before long, a waterfall tumbling down a cliff comes into view, followed by a new stream as you trek onward. We’ll pitch our tents in an open area with Vishansar Lake as a stunning backdrop. The remainder of the day is free for you to enjoy at your leisure, perhaps engaging in a fun activity of your choice. Dinner will be served, followed by an overnight stay at the campsite. Following our morning tea and breakfast, we’ll head toward our next destination. Perched at an elevation of 12,170 feet, Kishansar Lake sits just above Vishansar Lake. The breathtaking combination of lush green meadows and sparkling blue lakes creates a truly mesmerizing scene. As we continue, the ridge of Gadsar Pass will gradually come into sight. After a bit more walking, we’ll encounter the small Yamsar Lake, which holds mythological importance linked to Yama, the Hindu god of death. Moving onward, as the base of snow-draped cliffs appears, we’ll spot the pristine Gadsar Lake. After soaking in the stunning scenery, we’ll proceed a little further before setting up camp. The day will end with dinner and an overnight stay in our tents.
