About this tour

Overview:

Alang–Madan–Kulang (AMK) Trek

Endurance: Very High

The Alang–Madan–Kulang (AMK) Trek is widely regarded as one of the most challenging and rewarding trekking experiences in the Sahyadri range. Nestled within the Kalsubai–Harishchandragad Wildlife Sanctuary in Nashik district, this iconic trio of forts offers a thrilling combination of technical climbs, rugged terrain, and breathtaking mountain scenery.

Towering over the surrounding landscape, each fort has its own unique character. Alang Fort is known for its expansive plateau, ancient caves, and rock-cut water cisterns. Madan Fort delivers the most adventurous section of the trek, featuring exposed traverses, steep rock patches, and technical climbing routes. Standing tallest among the three, Kulang Fort rewards trekkers with sweeping views of nearby peaks including Kalsubai Peak, Ratangad Fort, and Harishchandragad.

Beyond its adventure, the AMK range carries significant historical importance. Dating back to the Satavahana and Maratha periods, these forts served as strategic watchpoints and defensive strongholds due to their commanding heights and natural fortifications. Remnants of ancient caves, fortifications, water tanks, and stone-cut steps still stand as a testament to their rich legacy.

What truly sets the AMK trek apart are its thrilling rappelling sections, challenging ascents, and remote wilderness. As night falls, trekkers camp atop vast plateaus under spectacular star-filled skies, far removed from the bustle of city life.

Combining history, adventure, and some of the most dramatic landscapes in the Western Ghats, the Alang–Madan–Kulang Trek is a bucket-list expedition for experienced trekkers seeking the ultimate Sahyadri challenge.
